TVShowsOnDVD.com has confirmed August 18 as the release date for the Season 12 DVD set. They also have the final art for both styles-- head packaging, and regular-- and a full rundown of all the extras. Let the fanboy celebrating/complaining begin!

It's been six months since the Season 11 DVD came out, and fans have been wondering when they can expect the next set. Part of the mystery seems to have been solved as TVShowsOnDVD.com seems to have an early look at the box art (featuring Comic Book Guy). No release date has been announced, however.

The U.S. Post Office recently announced that, for the first time ever, Simpsons stamps would available later this year. "44-cent first-class mail stamps, designed by Simpsons creator and executive producer Matt Groening, will feature Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson" to "help celebrate the longest-running primetime comedy's 20th anniversary this year." The stamps have now been revealed in a special Simpsons online stamp store, though they won't be available for sale until May 7 (you can preorder now).

At this store, you can buy a regular book of stamps, matted giclee prints of each character, framed art of the whole family together, stamped postal cards, and other items. There is also a sweepstakes you can enter. Stamp collectors and Simpsons geeks united at last!

As you may have noticed, this site has not been updated with the regularity it once was. There are several reasons for this, not the least of which is the slowdown in Simpsons collecting in general (these things come in waves, the late '90s were particularly dead too). In addition, the SCS staff, which has always worked for free because of our shared passions for this hobby and this site, have found their 'real' lives (if such a thing exists anymore) too time-consuming to keep up with SCS. There have also been the technical issues with the website, which our tech geeks have worked to resolve to their best of the ability. We regret this, and will continue to look for ways, suggestions, and time to keep this site alive and vibrant.

In the meantime, our forums remain active. Please continue to log in and say hi!

SCS member 'gusbanks' possesses one of the country's biggest Simpsons collections... and he's not afraid to show it off. He, and his collection, have just been featured on Good Morning Yahoo. Watch, drool, envy, repeat. He also has his own YouTube channel where he spotlights his collection by themes. Congrats to him for outgeeking us all.

It's been nearly a year since the last Simpsons season DVD release. but Fox has finally announced a release date for Season 11. TVShowsOnDVD.com reports that it will be released on October 7th, as a four-disc set. No word yet on packaging designs or extras, but that info should be released fairly soon. Hopefully future releases will be back on a regular schedule.

UPDATE: Box art is now available, courtesy of Simpsons Channel!

Things have been slow for Simpsons collectors (the McFarlane line is dead, no DVD releases since 2007)-- and the ol' SCS to boot-- but now the very popular KidRobot company apparently hopes to change that. Courtesy of TNI, there is this exciting news:

This August, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, team up with Kidrobot, the world's premier creator and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel, to release the first-ever Simpsons vinyl toy mini-figure series. For The Simpsons series, Matt Groening infused the line-up of Springfield citizens with a Kidrobot flavor, seamlessly merging The Simpsons' and Kidrobot's worlds.

The Simpsons x Kidrobot mini series starring: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Hippie Homer, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Krusty, Sideshow Bob, Scratchy, Itchy, Apu, Fat Tony, Bumblebee Man, Duffman, Chief Wiggum, Barney, Comic Book Guy, Funzo, Lucius Sweet, and three mystery figures.

With 24 figures in total, The Simpsons will be the biggest Kidrobot-produced mini-figure series to date. Each vinyl stands 3 inches tall, includes a character sticker, and comes blind boxed to preserve its identity. Figures will be sold separately (or can be purchased by the case) for $7.95 at all four Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com and at select retailers worldwide.

Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz says, "I have been continually inspired by Matt Groening's art. The toys we've created for The Simpsons are really a mash-up of our Kidrobot-style and Groening's original artwork."

"Kidrobot has created a fantastic toy line that casts The Simpsons characters in a fun, but highly stylized look," said Michael Peikoff, SVP Licensing and Merchandising for Fox Licensing & Merchandising. "This new line is a great new addition for any fan of the show."

Thanks to SCS member jellostick for the heads up.

UPDATE: Some previews images are available on the KidRobot forums.

The SCS gang will once again be at San Diego Comic Con. More details coming soon.

2/21/2008 Hacked Server

The SCS has been down because our server was hacked. We have changed hosting providers and hope to be fully back soon. In the meantime, please continue to enjoy OFF on Sunday nights, the DVD, your toys and of course, our message board.

EA Launches The Simpsons Game

SCS staff member 'blueduck37' attended EA's launch party for The Simpsons Game at Universal Studios in California this past Tuesday. The game was released on the X-Box 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS systems this week. Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, Matt Selman, and others were in attendance at the party. Fans also had an opportunity to demo the game at stations outside. A report with images and video is available in our SCS Magazine. The No Homers Club has a report as well.
