Merchandise Releases:
Action Figures

Released by Mattel

The first series of Simpsons action figures ever produced were released in 1990 by Mattel. The original assortment consisted of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Nelson Muntz and Bartman. Each figure came with appropriate accessories and a word bubble which attached to their heads. The word bubble was a container designed to hold four paper "phrases" which were pre-printed; blank paper bubbles were also included.

There was also a playset released for the figures called the Sofa & Boob Tube set. The playset consisted of a couch with with an ejector seat and a Simpson's TV set that "played" several shows. Swapping cardboard inserts with images printed on them allowed you to change the channel which your Simpsons figures were watching.
