The San Diego Comic Con is a great destination for Simpsons fans. Not only do you get two Simpsons-related panels (one for the show and one for Bongo Comics), a chance to meet Matt Groening himself, and lots of place to look for Simpsons memorabilia... you also get to meet your fellow SCS members! What could be more fun than that? Except, maybe, the very first sneak peek at the Simpsons movie perhaps.
This year's Simpsons panel got off to a bit of a late start (thanks a lot, 'Lost' fans!), but it was worth the wait. The panel lineup not only featured the usual heavy-hitters (Matt Groening, Bill Morrison, and numerous writers), but also a rare appearance by James L. Brooks. The special occassion was likely the world premiere of rough animatic footage from next year's Simpsons movie! Two scenes were shown in this rough form- a mob scene descending on the Simpsons home, and Homer mushing a dog-sled in the artic. Groening and co. also confirmed the impending return of Futurama. Our own Tom even got to ask Al Jean when he was finally to beat up Seth McFarlane.
On Friday evening, the SCS had its annual official Group Meeting at the convention. We had a great turnout and thank all who came. A lot of important business was discussed.
Instead of a pricey dinner, this year the SCS gang got together on Thursday for a BBBQ at RedTheTrucker's home in San Diego. Many thanks to Ken and our wonderful benefactor for their generosity and hot dogs. A good time was had by all, except our waistlines.
One of the best parts of the Comic Con is getting to hang out, interact, and make buffoons of oneself with fellow SCS members. Here are a few random pictures of our misadventures... including when Matt Groening got a chance to meet us!
