Simpsons-related panels at the San Diego Comic Con included a Bongo Comics panel on Friday afternoon, the Futurama and Simpsons, and SCS panels on Saturday afternoon.
The SCS's first ever panel entitled "Oh, I've Wasted My Life:" Collecting Simpsons Merchandise was held on Saturday afternoon. The panel members were Pat Linden (Playmates Toys), two representatives from ACME / Wonderful World of Animation Art, Phil Ortiz (Bongo Comics), Mark Lindsey (SCS administrator), Brant Bridges (Sideshow Toy), and Jason Labowitz (Entertainment Earth). The panel was moderated by Michael Crawford.
On Friday afternoon Bongo Comics held a panel moderated by Bill Morrison. Many projects were discussed including upcoming Simpsons stories and the sequel to the Simpsons/Futurama crossover.
The official Simpsons panel on Saturday afternoon featured Matt Groening and several of the show's writers. An extra-long version (with new scenes) of the episode "I'm Spelling As Fast As I Can" was screened followed by a Q&A session where the panel members answered fan questions. During the Q&A, SCS administrator phalen180 got up and presented Matt Groening with a special custom figure of him that was sculpted by member GrownUpGerald. Matt seemed genuinely touched by the gift, showing it off to panel moderator Bill Morrison at one point.
Before the official Simpsons panel on Saturday afternoon, there was a Futurama panel. The panel featured creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen as well as writers and voice actors Maurice LaMarche, John DiMaggio, and Billy West. The episode "Bender Should Not Be Allowed On TV" was screened followed by a Q&A session.
Here is a pic or two from before the SCS panel as well as many pictures from the SCS Meet and Greet in the conference room that was held immediately following the SCS's merchandise panel.
